The trip begins with an overnight stay in the beautiful, colonial city of Antigua, where the group will assemble, and your first taste of life in Guatemala will be enjoyed. We will then make our way to Isla Verde, a unique and beautiful, lakefront retreat center with a laid back vibe. Our days will include daily and always optional Yoga classes with Nina & Jenna, locally sourced meals, as well as plenty of time for relaxation, rejuvenation and reflection amongst the energetic vortex that is Lake Atitlan.
Outdoor lovers will have the opportunity to partake in many adventurous activities throughout our week including kayaking, hiking, and stand up paddle boarding. We will also have plenty of opportunity to experience the ancient Mayan culture of Lake Atitlan. Boat rides are readily available to visit neighboring villages where you can take in some amazing people watching, local foods, markets, and some of the best textile and arts shopping in Central America.

Adho Mukha Vrksasana, a.k.a. Handstand can be one of the most exciting, energizing and exhilarating parts of your practice. For many, this pose can bring up a lot of fear and anxiety. “What if I fall? I’m going to break something! What if I knock someone over?.” If this sounds like your inner dialogue, then this workshop is for you! In this 2 hour class we will explore ways to overcome that fear and gain confidence going upside down through skillful alignment and techniques. We will explore how to safely enter and exit various types of handstands, in a fun and supportive environment. You will leave with the fundamentals of this inversion, anatomy of the pose, wrist therapy techniques, as well as variations to spice up your practice. Class will include a short discussion, a flow designed to warm up key parts of the body, ample time to explore variations, and time to ask questions. This workshop is suitable for beginners, as well as, seasoned practitioners looking to refine their inversion practice. Come ready to play and shift your perspective in this powerful pose!
What: Arm balances can be one of the most exciting parts of your yoga practice. They can also invoke a ton of fear, self-judgement and confusion. It is no secret that our physical yoga practice can mirror our approach to life. Arm balances can show us a lot about how we greet situations in which we feel uncomfortable or fearful. Learn how to break past those fears and challenge yourself beyond your limits. When you learn to build the proper foundation and harness your breath, these poses become one of the best ways to arrive in the present moment. They require your complete and utter focus and attention, allowing you to be fully present with yourself.
In this workshop you will learn the biomechanics involved with the most popular arm balances, such as, bakasana(crow/crane), parsva bakasana(side crow), eka pada koundinyasana(hurdler’s pose), and titibasana (firefly). A proper understanding of alignment and bandhas will allow you create a sustainable practice with integrity, reducing the risk for injury.
This workshop will include a vinyasa style flow to warm up key parts of the body, a breakdown of anatomy and plenty of time to explore the most popular arm balances in depth. We will also explore a series of wrist therapy techniques that will relieve stress and develop strong and healthy wrists, which are a major component of arm balances. Ready to fly?
